The No. 7 ranked University of Saskatchewan Huskies overcame a two goal deficit to defeat the visiting UBC Thunderbirds 3-2 Saturday in Saskatoon’s Rutherford Rink. UBC falls to 7-14-1 and sits just one point behind the fourth and final playoff spot. A night earlier, the Huskies downed the T-Birds 7-1.

For the second night in a row, the no. 3 University of Alberta Golden Bears earned a straight-sets win (25-20, 25-21, 25-16) against the UBC Thunderbirds to sweep the weekend series, with senior left side Thomas Jarmoc leading the Bears to victory.

For the fifth time in the last six games, the no. 2 ranked UBC Thunderbirds (15-1) overcame a sluggish start to earn a hard fought victory, this time downing the Victoria Vikes (8-8) 78-72 at home on Friday night.  UBC needs one win over their final two games, or an SFU (13-3) loss, to secure home court advantage throughout the post season.

Reigning CIS Player of the Year Kayla Dykstra had a dominating performance for the no. 7 ranked Victoria Vikes (12-4) as they held on for a 72-71 victory over the no. 9 UBC Thunderbirds (10-6) at War Memorial Gym on Friday night.  Victoria now holds a two-game lead in the race for second in the Pacific Division.

The UBC Thunderbirds (1-3) dropped a pair of contests at the Lancer Invitational, hosted by the Cal Baptist Lancers, on Friday.  The T-Birds began the day with an 18-0 loss to the no. 1 ranked Lancers before seeing their seventh inning rally come up just short in a 7-6 loss to the Simpson University Redhawks.

UBC T-Birds Basketball Champs in 1937
George Pringle, one of UBC's basketball stars of the 1930s, led the Thunderbirds to the Canadian championship in 1937.
UBC's Mascot
UBC's mascot is the thunderbird.
UBC's First Canadian Championship
Eddie Mulhern won the Canadian amateur featherweight boxing championship in 1926 – the first Canadian championship won by a UBC athlete or team.
UBC women's volleyball
The UBC Thunderbirds women's volleyball team are two-time defending CIS Champions (2008 and 2009).
WFH CW titles streak
The UBC Thunderbirds women's field hockey team has won seven straight Canada West Championships.
CIS Swimming titles
The women's and men's swimming teams have won a combined 28 CIS Championships.  Since 1998, these two teams have won 22 of those CIS titles.
WFH CW titles overall
The UBC Thunderbirds women's field hockey team has won 21 Canada West Championships, the most of any UBC team.
MSOC CW titles
The UBC men's soccer team has won 12 Canada West titles, the most of any male T-Bird squad.
First Hall of Fame Inductions
The first inductions into the UBC Sports Hall of Fame were celebrated in 1993.
1st Winner of the Bobby Gaul Award
George Pringle, a three-time All-Star, was the first person to be selected winner of the prestigious Bobby Gaul Award.
