BELLINGHAM, WA - Mark Chenery of the UBC Thunderbirds used a great start to the second day Friday to win the decathlon in the Western Washington University Multi-Events meet at Civic Stadium.

Chenery closed the first day 14 points behind UBC teammate Reid Gustavson, but had outstanding performances in the 110 hurdles and discus to take a big lead that he was able to keep.
Chenery had a time of 15.57 in the 110 hurdles and a throw of 140-7 in the discus, with each mark gaining him more than 140 points over every other competitor in the 15-man field. He finished with 6,482 points, 51 better than Gustavson. Gustavson had the best mark in the pole vault, clearing 13-9 1/4.
Ivan Staeheli completed a 1-2-3 sweep for UBC with 6,339 points. Staeheli had the best marks in the last two events, throwing the javelin 165-6, and completing the 1,500 meters in 4:45.35.
Nate Johnson of Seattle Pacific, who was seventh after the first day, finished fourth (5,789) and Brandon Roddewig of Central Washington was fifth
