VANCOUVER – UBC Thunderbird David Sheman recently competed at the 2010 R & A British Amateur Championship taking on the best non-professional golfers in the world at the famed Muirfield and North Berwick courses. He tallied rounds of 77 and 80 in the two qualifying rounds, failing to advance to the second part of the championship that saw the top 64 of 288 contestants compete in a match play tournament.
Sheeman, who helped the T-Birds to the 2009 RCGA University Golf Championship in addition to a third place result at the 2009 NAIA Championships, was on exchange studying in Scotland for the 2009-10 season.
"We look forward to David's return to the team in the fall. This year we missed his leadership, influence of solid practice habits and skills. I'm sure his year abroad will have served him well and provided him perspective and I know he missed being around the guys," said UBC head coach
Chris MacDonald. "He's really the consummate amateur having played in the Canadian, US and British Amateur championships all in the past 12 months – something we hope all of our players aspire to accomplish."
