VANCOUVER - The UBC Thunderbirds are preparing to hit the track for the second time in 2012 as the Harry Jerome Indoor Classic gets underway this Saturday, February 4th at the Richmond Olympic Oval.
The Oval track, an Olympic legacy, gives the Thunderbirds an opportunity to tie up their spikes and put on their singlet during the chilly winter months.
You can be sure that the athletes will take advantage of the opportunity to compete in front of family and friends on home soil.
The women's sprint team will be led by a couple of T-bird veterans in
Sophie Tran and
Danielle Douglas as they make their first appearance on the track in 2012.
Freshman
Devan Wiebe will try to better her own facility record as she steps up to the line in the Women's 800m. Wiebe will not be alone as she is joined by a huge contingent of Thunderbirds in the Women's 800m.
Maria Bernard will also take a crack at the facility record in the Women's 1500m run.
On the men's side,
Parmveer Brar will make their season debuts in the Men's 60m. The Men's 800m will include sophomore
Simon Bill and fellow 2nd year
Justin Kent as the Surrey native steps down in distance to the half-mile. Freshman star
Jack Williams and the very experienced
Theo Hunt will lead a strong group of T-birds in the Men's 1500m.
Coming off a strong performance at the UW Indoor Preview,
Tim Huebsch will look to better his Personal Best of 8:43 in the Men's 3000m run.
