Vancouver, BC - With just eight games remaining in the regular season and a spot in the playoffs on the line, the UBC Thunderbirds men's hockey is excited to add a bonafide scorer to their line up.
Geordie Wudrick, who transferred from the University of New Brunswick, will be in the line up this weekend with the 'Birds play host to the number one ranked team in the nation, the Calgary Dinos.
A native of Abbotsford, BC, Wudrick played five seasons in the Western Hockey League with Swift Current and Kelowna, amassing 157 goals, 107 assists, and 264 points in 400 career regular season and playoff games. In his final season with Kelowna he scored 43 goals. He was selected in the third round, 88th overall in the 2008 NHL entry draft by the Los Angeles Kings, but unfortunately never signed a contract.
"We are bringing in one of the best players in the Canada West," said UBC head coach Milan Dragicevic. "He is a big body with a good shot and he can score. His responsiblity will be to provide offence and to help our power play."
Standing 6'4, 220, the 23 year -old joined the University of New Brunswick for the second half of the 2011-12 season after playing professional for half a year in the German second division. He left the Varsity Reds after playing the first half of last season. This Friday will mark his first game since December 31, 2012.
"Geordie has been with us since September and obviously is very familiar with our group and what we expect as a coaching staff," said Dragicevic. "This is an exciting time to add a player. Every game for us is a playoff game and we are excited to see how Geordie can help us down the stretch."
