UBC Thunderbirds women's soccer player
Aman Shergill had the game of her life to keep her team alive in its defence of both the Canada West and U Sports championships.
Â
In a Pacific Division play-in game at Alberta on Saturday, UBC was behind 2-0 at the half before Shergill scored a second half natural hat trick in 16 minutes to propel the Thunderbirds to a 3-2 triumph.
Â
A fourth-year defender, Shergill was moved to the striker position in the second half and the move by UBC head coach
Jesse Symons paid off immediately, as she scored in the 53rd minute on a shot from outside the penalty area.
Â
Just two minutes later Shergill found the back of the net again to tie the game for the Thunderbirds, knocking a bouncing ball from the top of the 18-yard box into the net.
Â
She completed the hat trick effort and got the game winner with a thunderous strike from 30 yards out that rocketed over Misiaszek's head, and just inside the left goalpost, in the 69th minute.
Â
It was her first career hat trick at the university level and gave the Thunderbirds, defending conference and national champions, a spot in the Canada West women's soccer Select Six this weekend in Langley, B.C. UBC will open with a quarter-final matchup against Manitoba on Thursday at Trinity Western University.
