VANCOUVER – Rookie Manpal Brar (Surrey, B.C.) scored for the UBC Thunderbirds men's soccer team in a 3-1 defeat to the Oregon State Beavers in Corvallis, Ore., Friday.
It was the first match of the 2016 season for UBC, the defending Canada West conference champions and national bronze medallists, and featured a mix of returning veterans and newcomers.

With the T-Birds down 1-0 in the first half, Brar recorded a 38th-minute goal – assisted by
Lucas Reis (Port Moody, B.C.) – to tie the contest. However, Oregon State re-took the lead just over a minute later before adding an insurance marker late in the second half. Goalkeeper
Chad Bush played all 90 minutes in net for UBC.
The Thunderbirds will continue their American road trip with a Sunday game at another NCAA Div. I institution, Seattle University. Kickoff is slated for 12 noon.
