Jasmin Dhanda's two goals pace UBC's offensive explosion against UNBC

VANCOUVER – It was a dominant performance for Jesse Symons and his UBC women's soccer team Saturday afternoon in Surrey. Striker Jasmin Dhanda's two goals paced the 'Blue and Gold' in a 7-0 trouncing of UNBC at South Surrey Athletic Park.

Dhanda was an offensive force for the Thunderbirds, firing ten shots at the UNBC goal with five of them hitting the target. Sydney Jennings, Rachel Jones, Janna Speed, Amelia Crawford, and Liesanne Musico also found the back of the net for the Thunderbirds. Emily Moore and Marlee Maracle shared in the shutout for UBC.

UNBC represented UBC's first Canadian competition after opening the exhibition season with a 4-1 loss to Eastern Washington and a 2-0 win over North Idaho College.

"We're starting to learn what partnerships work well and our attacking and defensive structures are starting to come together," said Symons. "The big things today that we've been building on over the last week have been a lot around more penetrating movements and really trying to make defenders make choices because we have two or three players making movements off each other. At times today, our players were very good at that, and because of that had some success. We still have room to grow and the players know that so we're really looking forward to these next two weeks to keep growing."

The Thunderbirds will play at cross-town rival Simon Fraser in the Vancouver exhibition derby on Saturday, August 27th.
