Conor Morgan selected to Team Canada for William Jones Cup

VANCOUVER – There will be no rest this summer for UBC's Conor Morgan as he prepares for his fifth and final season in the 'Blue and Gold'. On Tuesday the 6'9" Thunderbird forward and reigning Canada West scoring champ was named to the 3D Global Sports Canada 150 squad that will represent the 'Red and White' at the 39th William Jones Cup.

The William Jones Cup is an international basketball tournament held annually since 1977 in Taipei, Taiwan. It was named in honor of basketball promoter Renato William Jones, who was one of the founders of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA). The tournament runs July 14 - 23 in Taipei and is expected to draw big crowds and large TV audiences throughout Asia.

Morgan, who averaged 23.1 points per game and grabbed 7.4 rebounds, will join a Canadian roster including U SPORTS men's basketball Player of the Year, Connor Wood and 16th overall NBA draft choice in 2012, Royce White.

"It will be really good to see the next level and where I have to bring my game. It's also important to think that they're the same as me too. I need to be able to go out there and compete with them, play against them and fight for minutes against them as well," explains Morgan. "It's both sides of that line. You need to be confident in yourself but also respect them and take as much as they can give you."

Morgan who has defined professional basketball aspirations, after he finishes his eligibility at UBC,pulls no punches when explaining the dynamic of playing against professional-level players.

"I'm going to be playing against grown men. It's people who are fighting to put food on the table for their families. It's cutthroat and it's going to be really fun."

Morgan and the rest of his teammates will conduct their training camp in Toronto before moving on to Taipei.
