History
Wright Field is named after former UBC field hockey player Harry Wright, the father of another standout Thunderbird, Lee Wright, who spearheaded the fundraising campaign and provided a generous donation that helped this world-class turf become a reality in 2001. The first sod was turned ceremonially at the site (formerly Harry Logan Athletics Track) on April 20, 2001, and the ground-breaking and earthmoving began on August 9, 2001. The Thunderbirds first began CIS competition there in the fall of 2002, and the pitch has since played host to Canada West Championships and two CIS Championships.
Wright Field, which cost around $1.5 million to construct, is also constantly in use by UBC REC and community field hockey teams. It is also home to Field Hockey Canada training camps and major international competitions.Wright Field
